The parts of an Audi that need care.

Much of what makes an Audi drive well also needs servicing that a basic oil change leaves out. We check what your car is fitted with and what its schedule asks for, then do that rather than a generic list.

Signs your Audi needs looking at.

These are the faults Audi owners most often bring us. Each is cheaper to deal with the first time it shows.

  • Jerky low speed changes

Shunting in traffic on an S tronic is often overdue gearbox oil or a worn clutch pack. On the dry clutch box it can be the mechatronic unit.

  • Gearbox warning flashing

A flashing gear display usually means the gearbox has gone into a protective mode. Drive gently and book it in.

  • Rattle on a cold start

A few seconds of rattle on a 2.0 TFSI can be the timing chain tensioner, which wants checking before the chain jumps.

  • Low oil warnings

Needing a litre between services is more than wear. We measure it properly and find out why.

  • Front wheels scrabbling

On a quattro A3 or Q3, wheelspin in the wet can mean the rear coupling is not engaging, often for want of an oil change.

  • MMI screen faults

A blank screen, lost sound or a control that stops working is often a module fault rather than the unit itself.

Your Audi warranty and its service history.

Block exemption rules let an independent garage service an Audi under warranty, provided the schedule is followed and the parts are of matching quality. We work to both. Warranty repairs and recalls are paid for by Audi and still go to a dealer.

Audis keep their history online. We add every service to that record and give you a written copy, so the history is complete whoever does the work and when the car is sold.

No. Block exemption rules let an independent garage service an Audi under warranty as long as the schedule is followed and the parts are of matching quality. Warranty repairs and recalls are paid for by Audi and still go to a dealer.

The wet clutch versions do, at set intervals that are often around 40,000 miles. Skipping it is a common cause of jerky changes. The dry clutch seven speed fitted to many A1s and smaller A3s has no routine oil change, but its mechatronic unit can fail, which we diagnose.

It depends on the car. On the A3, TT and Q3, quattro uses a Haldex coupling at the rear that needs its own oil change. Left too long, it stops sending drive to the back wheels. The larger Audis use a different system with oil in the differentials. We check which yours has.

Some use is. The 2.0 TFSI petrol from about 2008 to 2012 is known for heavy use caused by its piston rings. We measure the use over a set mileage, check the timing chain tensioner while we are there and tell you what we find before anything is quoted.
