Signs your Renault needs looking at.

Renault faults tend to announce themselves early. These are the ones that cost most when they are ignored.

  • Knocking from the engine

A knock that rises with the revs on a dCi can be a worn crankshaft bearing. Stop driving it and call us.

  • Card not detected

Usually the battery in the card. If a new battery does not cure it, the card or the reader is next.

  • Judder in traffic

On an EDC automatic it is often the dual clutch. On a manual it is more likely the clutch or the flywheel.

  • Check injection warning

A general engine warning that can be a sensor, an injector or the turbo. We read the codes before quoting.

  • Particulate filter light

Diesels on short local trips struggle to clear the filter. Caught early it can usually be cleaned rather than replaced.

  • Heavy or notchy steering

Steering that turns stiff or uneven on a Clio or Megane can be the electric column or a seized joint, both worth finding before the MOT.

The Renault jobs we see most.

Renaults are good value to buy and cheap to run when they are serviced on time. Most of the expensive faults we see trace back to an oil change that came late or a warning that was left on, so the service is where we start.

Your Renault warranty and its service history.

Block exemption rules let an independent garage service a Renault under warranty, provided the schedule is followed and the parts are of matching quality. We work to both, and warranty repairs and recalls, which Renault pays for, still go to a dealer.

Every service is added to the car’s record and written up for you, with the parts and the oil grade used, so the history stands up when you come to sell.

No. Block exemption rules mean the warranty stands at an independent garage as long as the Renault schedule is followed and the parts are of matching quality, which is how we work. Warranty repairs and recalls are paid for by Renault and go to a dealer.

The 1.5 dCi is a good engine with one weakness: its crankshaft bearings wear quickly on old or incorrect oil, and a spun bearing usually means a replacement engine. We change the oil at the right interval with the grade Renault specifies and check the cambelt date at the same visit.

Usually. It is most often the battery in the card, then the card itself, then the reader in the dashboard. We test each in turn and tell you which it is before quoting, so you are not paying for a new card the car did not need.

On the EDC automatic it is often the dual clutch, which can judder and hesitate at low speed as it wears. On a manual it is more likely the clutch or the flywheel. We diagnose which before quoting for anything.
